Life Goes On....: School Holiday

Talking about his school progress, early last month I start getting reports from teachers that he is having meltdowns over coloring and writing. I got really distraught and meeting his class teacher one afternoon to hear the real problem.

According to her this seems to be the only problem, he has friends, sociable, he enjoys singing, dancing and likes cutting and pasting but when everyone else were doing coloring or writing he seems to get distracted easily, stop his work and start dreaming and talking which end up he did not finish on time and teachers has to put him at one corner finishing his work whereas the others doing something else. Although it may not a big deal to them but I’m so glad that his teacher came and talk to me earlier, in fact she has given priority to him right now. After having long discussion, we concluded that he would probably just get unexciting with the same thing that he has been doing for the past two years in the old kindergarten. We replaced a few things like from color pencils to giant crayons, fancy coloring books. I even told his teacher to take it easy on him just make sure he participate and give him other materials that make him more enjoyable. So I guess getting to school at early ages does not bring any advantages.

Surprisingly, he shows a lot of improvement in this week at home, he could finish coloring fast, hold the pencil properly and start recognizing A – D. Hopefully he is doing fine at school as well.

Last week I took 5 days off taking the advantages of school holiday to spend time with him away from school. I wish I could spend more time with him every day but at the moment I still need to work to share the financial burden of raising him and family. Sesungguhnya Allah knows what is best for us.
